The Deadline is Fast Approaching : Are You Ready To Comply With WHMIS 2015?
November 1st, 2018
As you probably already know, the deadline to comply with the new WHMIS 20151 requirements is December 1st, 2018 for provincially regulated businesses. As of this date, supplier or workplace labels2, in compliance with the regulation, must be affixed to hazardous products in the workplace.
There are three main differences between WHMIS 1988 and the 2015 version; changes have been made to the (new) classification and pictogram rules associated with hazard classes, labelling requirements, and the format and content of Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs).
Suppliers, including Magnus, must provide an SDS when a hazardous product is sold, when the classification of a hazardous product is modified, or when a change is made to the method of protection from a product’s hazards. Magnus is committed to transmitting these documents in a timely manner. Up-to-date sheets can also be obtained by sending a request to the following address: firstname.lastname@example.org
Your responsibilities as an employer remain unchanged; it is your job to ensure employees receive proper training on how to understand and use the information on labels and SDSs as well as how to safely handle hazardous products. Employees must be able to immediately access SDS documents at all times.
Take note that you may receive a visit from the Ministry of Labor to verify whether or not hazardous products within your workplace comply with the WHMIS 2015 legislation.
Are you ready for this last stretch before the WHMIS 2015 deadline?
